In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Department of Chemistry is committed to empowering young minds with high-quality education that not only fosters intellectual growth but also nurtures the skills necessary for contributing to the nation’s development. Our objective transcends the mere transmission of theoretical knowledge; we aim to equip our students with practical insights, critical thinking, and exposure to the evolving societal landscape, thereby enabling them to forge better and more promising futures.
Our mission is rooted in the dual purpose of advancing both knowledge and application in the field of chemistry. To support this, the department has set forth a comprehensive set of goals:
The Department of Chemistry offers a dynamic and enriching environment for Ph.D. research, providing students with the opportunity to explore innovative solutions to scientific challenges. With state-of-the-art research laboratories recognized by RTMNU, Nagpur, and a faculty actively engaged in cutting-edge research, doctoral candidates are encouraged to work on diverse projects funded by prestigious agencies like CSIR, UGC, DST, and RDC. In addition to research excellence, the department emphasizes on-the-job training (OJT) and internships to ensure industry-readiness. Through collaborations with leading research organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and chemical industries, students gain hands-on experience, enhancing their practical skills and building professional networks for successful careers.
Established in 1906 with the introduction of the B.Sc. programme, the Department of Chemistry has a long-standing tradition of academic excellence. The postgraduate programme, introduced in 1962, offers specializations in Organic, Inorganic, Physical, and Analytical Chemistry, which has contributed to shaping the future of chemistry education in the region.
The research laboratories of the department have gained recognition by RTMNU, Nagpur for conducting doctoral-level research and contributing to scientific advancements. Our department is home to a team of 11 dedicated faculty members, 08 of whom have earned their Ph.D. degrees. These faculty members remain actively engaged in research, evidenced by their contributions to scientific journals and their participation in research projects funded by prominent agencies such as CSIR, UGC, DST, and RDC.
